When Is A Public Hearing Not Really A Public Hearing?

The City of Loveland has called for a public hearing tonight - Tuesday, August 13, 2019, 7pm at city hall. The stated purpose “ to receive public comments on the proposed purchase of land to construct a parking facility.” The problem is the council already voted, via emergency on May 28, 2019 authorizing the city manager to buy the land. The real estate contract was included in the council meeting packet.

Putting this obvious issue aside, there is also certain information that has not been distributed to the public, most notably the appraisal of the property. Is the land worth what the taxpayers are paying for it?

On our latest podcast - Problems with Parking and Public Hearings - we discuss these questions as well as the lack of information on the cost of the project, how the city plans to pay for it, revenue projections and the conflicting stated purpose of the development - council members have stated it is for a parking garage, however on page 5 of the geotehnical report, click here, states “ we expect the lot to be developed with up to 4 stories of commercial and residential structures.” Was this decision made during discussions conducted in back rooms and not in full view of the public? Conversations that Councilman Neil Oury said “ that Council has discussed options.” Join us, won’t you?
